Hey y’all! Welcome to Blogmas Day 4!
Today I’m going to be carrying on with my interview series ‘In The Spotlight’. This week we have the very lovely Dani from Flourishing Freelancer.Your be able to find all her links at the end of the interview. Lets get cracking;
How long have you been blogging for now?
Erm tough first question! I think I started blogging in 2012 but I hardly posted anything and what I did post was terrible. I started properly blogging in Spring 2013 when I began documenting an 18 month long fundraising challenge. I took on 18 different physical challenges over 18 months and used my blog to keep people up to date. Once I started writing regularly about training and the events, I wanted to write about anything and everything…so I did!
Do you find blogging to be challenging at times?
Yes but it’s totally worth it. I work full time so my blogging has to fit in around my job which can be difficult at times. Especially as I’m also training for a Marathon at the moment so my life is like this: Work, run, eat, blog number 1, blog number 2, sleep, repeat.
It’s also challenging creating new content when my creativity just isn’t working! Sometimes my brain really isn’t my friend and I can just stare at a blank screen for hours on end. It’s hard not to beat yourself up when you have those days but you just have to accept it and try again the next day.
Every so often you’ll get lovely messages or comments on your blog from readers saying how much you’ve helped them or how much they can relate to a certain post and it makes it all worthwhile!
Which do you prefer lifestyle blogging or providing hints and tips?
Can I say I enjoy both equally? Is that cheating? Honestly though, I love them both for different reasons. I love my lifestyle blog because I don’t feel constrained by a niche as such; it’s quite often just a place to dump my thoughts and feelings. It’s also the place I talk about things I’m really passionate about such a mental health. It’s a totally emotional blog and I just write whatever is on my mind which is great.
Providing hints and tips is completely different to that. I know my niche so I know what to write about. Luckily, there’s loads to say about blogging and writing so I don’t feel stuck for ideas. The reason I love this kind of blogging is because when I started my personal blog, I had no idea what I was doing and just clicked around on the internet hoping for the best! It took me a while to get where I am now and I feel that I’ve learnt a lot. I love being able to share what I’ve learnt with other people now.
What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?
I LOVE Christmas! It’s my absolute favourite time of year. I think the best thing about Christmas is getting to spend time with the important people in your life. Oh, and getting to eat and drink loads too!
Your dream holiday destination?
For a luxury relaxing holiday I’d love to go to Bora Bora. I’d like to think I’m quite adventurous and would love to explore loads of new places and India is next on my list so I guess that’s a dream destination too.
What’s the one thing you find hardest about blogging?
I’d have to say myself. Well, my self-doubt. I’m always really critical of what I’ve done and tend to focus on what I haven’t achieved rather than what I have. So yeah, I think the thing I find hardest about blogging is recognising what I’ve achieved and letting myself be happy about it.
How often do you try to blog?
Well I just finished doing blogtober…on both blogs! So in October I posted every single day on two blogs (a total of 62 blog posts!!) It was a nightmare to say the least!
On Flourishing Freelancer I like to blog on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Then if I’ve got anything extra to say, I might do an extra post on the weekend but I’m not too strict on that.
Brighteyed and Bewildered is much more relaxed. As I blog about personal things, I completely depends on what’s going on in my life. I’d like to aim for 2-3 post per week but sometimes I’ve got nothing to say and other times I can’t stop writing! I don’t have a schedule or anything for this blog…I probably should think about sorting that out at some point…
Halloween or Christmas?
Christmas. Definitely Christmas. I don’t really get Halloween to be honest. I mean, I understand the history behind it but I don’t get what we do with it now. Also I’m the biggest wimp in the world so totally not into scary stuff.
Do you have any tips for people wanting to take up blogging?
Yes, visit my blog! But seriously, I think doing some reading and research before you start is so beneficial. I just kind of learnt as I went along and made so many mistakes; I spent hours and hours re-doing things that I could have just got right in the first place if I’d done a bit of research before starting.
Another tip I have is to blog about something you love. I know everyone says this but it’s so true. Being yourself is really important in the blogging world. There’s so many bloggers out there that your personality and writing about what you love will really make you stand out from other bloggers.
Oh, and one other thing, don’t give up. We all have crappy days and things do go wrong but if you really enjoy blogging, don’t let those things get you down.
Huge Thanks to Dani for taking part. It was a pleasure working with you! Any views expressed by Dani are solely her own and here’s all her links and where to find her;
Hope you enjoyed Dani’s Interview and I will see you all tomorrow for Blogmas Day 5!
